theedge: Nik Aziz: No problem with more women holding top posts

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan government does not have any problem and neither does it object to the situation of having more women than men holding top posts in the public sector, Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said today.

He said that of more importance was delivery of service and the quality of work of the civil servants.

"In Islam, men and women are looked upon as equal. No one is superior," he told reporters here.

He was commenting on the statement by Cuepacs secretary-general Ahmad Shah Mohd Zin who expressed concern over recent trends which showed that more women were getting appointed as decision makers and this would have a long-term impact on the nation's progress and growth.

On Monday, Ahmad Shah said Cuepacs was concerned about the "increasing dominance" of female employees in the civil service as it would have "long-term implications on the progress and growth of the country".

While Cuepacs appreciated the government's gender equality policy, it nevertheless wanted it to be implemented with great care so as not to "upset the balance between male and female employees", he added.
